This medicine contains Fenoterol and Ipratropium bromide. They are used together in this medicine to treat acute asthma attacks.
Fenoterol and Ipratropium bromide are known as "bronchodilators", which literally means "open airways". They help to treat your asthma or chest illnesses by relaxing the airways in your lungs.
Fenoterol and Ipratropium bromide work together in this medicine to relieve chest tightness, wheezing and cough so that you can breathe more easily.
Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as an inhaler or nebuliser solution. The nebulising solution is to be used with a machine known as a nebuliser.
Make sure you know how to use your inhaler or nebuliser. If you have problems or do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
This medicine must be used exactly as directed for it to work well.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the usual time.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Remember to use your medicine regularly. This medicine must be used exactly as directed for it to be effective. If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you suffer from heart disease, especially irregular heart beat or an enlarged heart; high blood pressure, thyroid disease, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, cystic fibrosis or epilepsy (seizures).
Alert your doctor if your chest tightness seems worse or if this medicine does not seem to give as much relief as before.
If you also have diabetes, be sure to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly because this medicine may cause your blood sugar to rise.
Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed while being treated with this medicine.
If you are using a nebuliser mask, make sure that it fits well on your face. Do not allow the nebulising solution or mist to enter your eyes.
If you are using a mouthpiece, make sure that it fits well in your mouth. Do not allow the solution or mist to enter your eyes.
If the solution or mist enters your eyes, flush your eyes with clean water immediately. See a doctor quickly if there is pain, discomfort, blurred or abnormal vision after the solution or mist enters your eyes.
This medicine may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
You may also feel that your heart beats faster and more forcefully, causing a "pounding" sensation in your chest. Make sure you inform your doctor but do not stop using this medicine unless told to do so.
Other common side effects include cough, sore throat, dry mouth, constipation, shaky hands, nervousness, headache and muscle cramps.
Less commonly, you may also have nausea or problems falling asleep. If any of these problems persist or get worse, let your doctor know.
Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here:
- other asthma medicines
- heart medicines such as digoxin, metoprolol, atenolol, propranolol, hydrochlorothiazide, frusemide
- antidepressants
- atomoxetine (a medicine used to treat hyperactivity)
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Try to limit your intake of caffeine-containing drinks such as coffee, tea and certain soft drinks. This is because caffeine can increase some of the side effects of this medicine.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
